A ✨good news✨ letter on climate solutions in Portland, OR.

Wait, good news? About climate change?

Bad news about climate change is everywhere. If you’re paying attention, you’re probably outraged, terrified, and sad. But the news isn’t all bad—in fact, there are people right here in the Rose City showing up to solve this crisis with imagination, creativity, and heart…and actually moving the needle.

Research shows reading positive climate stories is a powerful act in itself.

According to behavioral scientists, focusing on possibilities instead of problems is actually a more effective way to inspire action than the doom-and-gloom climate headlines we see so often.

“Burned out people can’t save the world,” writes energy analyst Desmond Kirwan. “To begin altering behaviors in the direction of a more sustainable future, we must shift our messaging around climate change to a more positive approach.” That’s what Rose Citizen, in its own small way, seeks to do.

Citizens can help more than we think…especially when we stay inspired.

Each month, Rose Citizen curates local news stories on all the ways, big and small, that Portlanders are showing up to reimagine life on our planet. It’s a small but tangible step toward shifting our focus from what’s wrong to what’s possible. We hope these monthly love letters help you read more local news, feel some warm fuzzies about your city, and get inspired to be part of the possibilities.
